From Rock Bottom to Recovery featuring Andre Johnson

In the fourth and final installment of Detroit Worldwide's Men of Morehouse series, Marquis connects with Andre Johnson, who is the president, CEO, and founder of the Detroit Recovery Project, which is a community-based agency that helps to strengthen affected by substance abuse.

In this episode, Andre discusses his personal road to recovery and how it enabled him to effectively serve and support his community. 

Andre also discusses his uncovential road to Morehouse College during the 1990s and how all roads led back to Detroit following his college graduation. 

About Andre:


Andre L. Johnson is a native Detroiter and  the President/CEO and Founder of the Detroit Recovery Project Incorporated--a multi-service agency that provides a wide spectrum of support services to the city’s recovery community.  

Many services are offered at the Detroit Recovery Project including  Recovery Coaching, GED preparation,twelve-step support groups, housing assistance, and job readiness. 

  He is an active member of the Third Judicial Circuit Court Family Division Drug Court Team.  Mr. Johnson is a board member of the Wayne Center--an agency that provides services for the mentally ill and the developmentally disabled. 

He was recognized by US President Barack Obama as the “2016 Champion of Change for Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery”.

 

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Morehouse College (Atlanta, Georgia) and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.  

He is currently an adjunct faculty member at Western Michigan University.
