Called to Serve featuring Brandon Gleaton

In this installment of the Detroit Worldwide Podcast, Marquis connects with youth advocate and college access champion, Brandon Gleaton about his experience growing up in the D and what it means to be a longtime resident.

Brandon also highlights his journey as a first-generation college student and how mentorship shaped his perspective on public service and educating tomorrow's leaders. 

About Brandon:

As a proud native Detroiter, Brandon is committed to policy and education as integral parts of systemic change for social justice. Focusing his work on educational initiatives for youth, Brandon has been able to teach self-advocacy to support systemic change that Detroiters yearn. Brandon currently works as a Program Manager with the Hazel Park Promise Zone and College Access Network.

Access and opportunity are central to Brandon's work. Brandon worked as Program Manager with City Year. In this role, he led Americorps members providing instructional support in Detroit schools. He has taught in public and charter schools, taught young adults pursuing their GED, coordinated SAT academic programming, and served as a peer mentor teaching assistant in Wayne State University's College of Education, collaborating with faculty to facilitate a course titled “Becoming an Urban Educator,” which explored the intricacies of urban schools. Brandon is an alumnus of Wayne State University with a B.A. in Education and current graduate student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn pursuing a Master in Public Administration and Policy.
